The written word is a powerful tool for communication. Far more flexible and enduring than any other recordable medium, written text has been shown to touch readers in a more personal way than audio or video could ever hope to do. Even with all the advances in technology that have changed the way information and stories are presented, nothing rivals the printed word for timeless influence of the imagination.

Regardless of the millions spent on special effects for the first Star Wars movie, today it seems dated and limiting in scope. Read the Jules Verne classic "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas", penned in 1870, and it seems as real, relevant and timeless as it did the day it was first published.

Although it might be true that a picture is worth a thousand words, even half that many well-chosen words can create an image in the readers mind that no picture could convey.
